1:50 Tipper Models – The Workhorse of the Construction Site Collection
The tipper is the vehicle that comes and goes most frequently on any construction site. In 1:50 scale, it is therefore the vital link between machine and road: the excavator loads, the tipper drives away. We have around 26 available models in stock, all in 1:50 scale.
It is not the cab that counts, but the body
Twelve models feature a Meiller body, four a Schwarzmüller half-pipe body, two a Schmitz Cargobull tipper semi-trailer, and one a Dautel three-way tipper. The same Arocs with a Meiller three-way tipper and the same Arocs with a Schwarzmüller half-pipe are two different models – in price, in production run, and in who is looking for them. That is why we include the body manufacturer in our title.
The Types
Three-way tippers (7) can tip to the rear and to both sides – the classic construction site design. Half-pipe bodies (5) are semi-trailers for bulk materials over long distances. Rear tippers (3) only tip to the rear, but offer a larger volume. In addition, there are tipper semi-trailers, a skip loader for containers, a hooklift truck on the electric MAN eTGS, and two Trigenius skip loaders.
A separate group consists of the dump trucks: Caterpillar 789B, Liebherr TA230, Komatsu HD785-7, and the Dresser 730E Haulpak. These are not road vehicles, but open-pit mining and construction site dumpers – they don't drive to the customer, they drive in circles.
The item number reveals the chassis
Conrad organizes its bodies by chassis: Numbers with 812xx sit on MAN, numbers with 782xx on the Mercedes-Benz Arocs. The Meiller Trigenius D421 is the cleanest example of this – as 81255/07 on the MAN TGS, as 78255/0 on the Arocs. Anyone who knows which chassis they are looking for can recognize it by the first three digits.
And as is the case everywhere at Conrad, the suffix after the slash determines the printing: 78202/05 bears the colors of CEMEX, 78216/05 those of PRAJO’S.
The Chassis
Fourteen models are on a Mercedes-Benz chassis – twelve of which are Arocs, plus an Actros and the LAK 1624 round-hood as a historical model. Seven are on a MAN, predominantly TGS. They are built by Conrad (21) and NZG (5).
What to look for in a tipper model
The skip: It should be possible to lift it and hold it in the tipped position. For three-way tippers, this also includes the side walls being able to open individually.
The tailgates: Hinges and locking mechanisms are where simple models differ from good ones.
The printing: For freight forwarding and construction company versions, the cleanliness of the pad printing is the most important quality indicator.
