Why certain models prevail
Three patterns repeat themselves.
The familiar prototype. Machines that everyone has already seen on a construction site sell better than rare special equipment – even among collectors.
The entry-level price. Models in the mid-price range are the most common first purchase. Those who end up with the big cranes later on usually started here.
The company livery with a personal connection. Models in the colors of a company that one knows or works for are the most common reason for a targeted purchase.
What a bestseller does not mean
The fact that a model is sold often says nothing about its rarity. The most coveted pieces in the shop are often those of which only a few exist – and they do not appear here precisely because they are gone after a short time.
